Film Tracker

Duck Software's Organizer series of personal database applications share a common core that is then optimized for a specific use, such as keeping track of your film collection. That is the job of Film Tracker v5.0, a free film database. It can help you keep track of your far-flung video collection with over 19 customizable information fields. Like all such databases, you must enter the information small by small, but Film Tracker's efficient entry form makes that job simple, and it can also import and export information in CSV files.

Like its stablemates, Film Tracker shares the Organizer format and layout, with a main list view that can sort entries by Titles or by Stars (actors) as well as a series of section tabs listing films by style, such as Action, Classic, Comedy, Drama, and so on. Buttons as well as a preview window let us associate graphics files with entries. A series of buttons labelled A to Z runs along the bottom edge, giving fast access to entries. The remainder of the interface is an information entry form with specialized fields such as Stars, Length, Producer, Director, and custom fields. Control icons let us add, edit, search, delete, and copy entries. An fascinating button labelled Cast popped up with a cast list of the selected example film, "Casablanca," while another labelled Review called up some brief reviews for some titles, though these features weren't available in a number of the sample titles Film Tracker provides. They could change the heading of any field basically by clicking Custom Field Names on the menu bar and typing in whatever they wanted; for example, they changed the Value field to Studio to record the production studio's name and designated of the custom fields for video formats. The information form has fields for tracking items out on loan. Film Tracker can also generate reports, print labels, and convert files to and from CSV format.

Film Tracker Application will help you organize and catalog all of your movies and DVDs with over 19 different customizable fields. Film Tracker has a simple, easy-to-use interface that not only makes it simple to enter information, but also makes it simple to browse, sort, and print reports on the film information you have entered. Additional film organizer features include custom fields, search, custom print outs, labels, and import/exporting of files.

As with other Organizer tools, we'd like the ability to add, delete, and rename the section tabs, and possibly a link that accesses locally stored or Web-hosted titles. As a free tool optimized for maintaining with a film collection, Film Tracker v5.0 nails the role.
